Dendi District is located in West Showa Zone in Oromia Region, Ethiopia. According to Dendi District culture and tourism office information “the nomenclature of Dendi originated before Italian aggression from a thin and long road ‘Dendi’ which means road stretched from south west Showa Zone center Woliso town to Ginchi and Ginch to Addis Ababa across approximately about 150 kilometers”. The District center is Ginchi town that is located 78 kilometers away to west of Addis Ababa and 35 kilometers away from Ambo to the east. Dendi has a land area of 1,296.12 square kilometers. The District lies within the coordinates from 8043` to 9017` North Latitude and 37047` to 38020` East Longitude and it covers a total area of 1,296.12 km2.
The altitudinal range of the District is between 1440 to 3260m a.m.s.l (CSA, 2005). From the Part of West Shewa Zone, Dendi is bordered on the south by the Southwest Shewa Zone, on the west by area of Ambo, on the north by Jeldu, Gindebert, Abuna Gidebert, Chobi Woreda, and on the north west Ilfata Woreda and on the east by Ejerie and Ejersa Lafo woreda. The administrative center of Dendi woreda is Ginchi town; other towns 2 small towns like Boda and Asgori, Dendi woreda currently has 35 rural kebeles and 4 urban kebeles like Malka Awash, Malka Irrecha, Tulu Sangota and Malka Ananno with a population of 204,848 of which 104,451 were male and 100,315 were female.
The agro-ecology of the area is divided in to two climatic Zones namely: temperate zone, 10%, and sub-tropical zone, 90. The natural resource 1) Chilimo National forest near Ginchi town, 2) Lake Dendi (shaped number eight), 3) Awash river spring located beside Ginhci town, 4) Debis river and cultural centers such as, 1) Weliso liben and Abebe kerensa Gada centre, 2) Anchebi Ababoku center 3) Malka Nabe Errecha center, 4) Malka Awas errecha which celebrated before one week of Horsade celebration, 5) Tullu salgan Errecha center.
The majority of the inhabitants said they practiced Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity, with 84.98% of the population this belief, while 8.47% of the population practiced traditional beliefs, and 5.11% were Protestant.
In the District there are 14 KG Academy (1-4) schools private, elementary schools (5-8), 4 preparatory schools. Totally, there are KG up high schools and total numbers of students in the District are 48,000 students are present. In all schools the infrastructures are available which means that all schools are near to road. As well as, according to Dandi trade office information there are more than 2606 different kinds of licensed traders present within 3 million averages of their capital.
Dendi District has typically has large area verity-soil (Black soil) which was covered most of the District that were 17 kebeles of 35 Rural kebeles. Dendi District has precious natural gifts and cultural centers, which can be available for tourism and to conduct research. Dendi agriculture and natural resource protection office 2018 annual report indicated the District was highly populated which mentioned above and the District is available for agriculture, trade, hotel and tourism. Agriculture is the main economic activity of the District, which of the total land, is 109,720 hek. The District is divided in to three distinct geographical areas with different proportions; namely the high land 29%, midland 71% and the low land 39%. The District is situated at an altitude above 2000mm-3288mm above sea level. It has mean annual temperature of slightly greater than 9.3 0c-23.80c.
The highest point in this woreda is Mount Dendi (3260 meters), located on the border with Wonchi woreda. Notable landscape features include the Chilimo forest, a wooded area 2400 hectares in size near Ginchi, which is a remnant of the dry afromontane forest on the Ethiopian Central Plateau.
