RESEARCH & PUBLICATIONS
RVU STUDENTS’ RESEARCH PROTOCOL
A thesis for Master’s Degree is defined as a piece of written research embodying not less than 30,000 words which forms a distinct contribution to knowledge, professional skills, and affords evidence of originality.
- A Research Proposal (RP) completed to meet the Rift Valley University regulations must be submitted first to the respective department or the Campus Graduate Program Coordinator(GPC) and then to the Academic V/Dean. This will be examined by the Department Council of the Department of the Campus. After being examined, the advisor and the student will receive a written report on the feasibility of the Research Project. If modifications are required, these must be completed promptly and the RP re-submitted for full approval.
- All thesis submissions will be examined by at least two examiners appointed by the Campus; submissions of the final work are also approved by two examiners from the campus. The criteria for assessment are provided to students in a separate document.
- Students are required to use the accepted system of citation. A guide to the use of this will be made available to students.
- All graduate program students are required to contact the advisors at the outset of the project and thereafter to submit work as it develops and at regular intervals. No student may submit work for examination which has not been approved by the advisors.
- Each student shall defend his/her thesis before an ad hoc academic body, including the advisor of the particular student, for which s/he should defend well enough to achieve ‘qualified for graduation’.
Apart from students’ research, the University organizes and hosts Campus-based In-house workshops and University wide Annual National Research Conferences. The conferences open a plat form for scholars, researchers and the academia to come together and share their research findings, and make academic debates to take up next research topics. Best papers from the presented ones are selected by the Editorial Board of Rift Valley University and are published in the journal of the University- Rift Valley University Journal of Science and Technology.
