RVU Managing Council has established a task force to research the challenges Open and Distance Education (ODE) is facing and to revitalize the sector. Based on the conducted research work, the task force restructured the previous structures on a Cluster basis to effectively and efficiently perform the designated tasks. In addition to Campus/College level activities, the task force called a meeting of Head Office staff on April 24, 2024, and discussed how to reverse the declining number of students and salvage the Sector.

Dr. Senbato Busha, RVU Vice President for Open and Distance Education informed the staff of the rationale for calling an urgent meeting. In his speech, Dr. Senbato updated the staff members about the established RVU task force and on what has been accomplished so far including the emergency plan. After a brief introduction, Dr. Senbato invited Ato Biranhu Zegeye, RVU Human Resource Director and task force member to present the urgent plan prepared by the Taskforce, Ato Biranhu presented the plan and briefed employees on the establishment of Clusters that accommodate various Campuses/colleges to jointly work together and utilize the existing meager resources.

Prof. Derbsa Dufdera, Vice President for Research, Community Service, and Technology Transfer representing RVU Managing Council commented on the report and shared his experiences of other private and public universities regarding teaching-learning activities. Prof. in his comment urged staff members to diversify their degrees by joining the program or encourage others to join the RVU ODE Program and benefit from the allocated incentives for this purpose. After the presentations were over, the staff members deliberated on wide-ranging issues including the challenges the program is facing and its sustainability.

The participants raised questions and comments, the managing Council members and the members of the task force appreciated the courage and determination of the employees and responded to the raised questions. In conclusion, the employee appreciated the efforts made by RVU leadership to salvage the program and vowed to do whatever it take to materialize the intended objectives.
