The library has a lion’s share in promoting education, research, distribution of information, and preservation of knowledge.  To be fitted with the academic community’s needs; the library services should be well planned, timely evaluated, and updated.

This significant contribution of libraries to a community requires the professional knowledge and skill of librarians. Librarians are persons who work professionally in libraries. Usually, the role of librarians is continually evaluated and up-to-date to meet the current needs of the user community.

Accordingly, RVUL organized three days of training to enhance the capacity of the Rift Valley University librarians, with the objective of improving access points to information that is possible in both computerized & manual systems.

The Training topics cover installation, configurations, and operating digital library for a client library and Integrated Library automation system which is extremely crucial for large universities like the RVU. Apart from electronic resources, automated systems, the training consists to maintain a system that helps to locate individual copies of monographs at their appropriate positions within their subject area on the shelf. This is also very important to make accessible books, journals, research papers, and other resources available in each campus library.

The training program is also designed to acquaint the trainees to have knowledge of customer handling, principles of library services, and library management systems.

Ato Gutema Balcha,  Director for RVU Libraries introduced the training program and invited Dr. Abebe Gemechu, RVU President to make an opening speech. Dr. Abebe in his speech reminded trainees to actively take part in the three days training and workshop so as to discharge their duties and responsibilities. Besides, he informed trainees that RVU has planned to centralize its Library system and launch Library Science Discipline in the near future. To that end, he encouraged them to contribute their part to the realization of the planned activities.
